Office furniture delivery goes more smoothly when the site, access route and installation plan are ready before the truck arrives. A desk may fit perfectly in the room but still be too large for the lift, too heavy for one person or difficult to assemble once it is pushed against a wall.
The short answer: confirm what the delivery service includes, measure the largest package against the full access route, clear and protect the installation area, then inspect and test every item before signing off.
1. Confirm the Delivery Service Before Ordering
“Delivery” does not always mean that furniture will be carried to a room, assembled and placed in position. Ask for the scope in writing and check whether the quote includes:
- kerbside, ground-floor or indoor delivery;
- stairs, lifts and long internal carrying distances;
- unpacking, assembly and final placement;
- packaging removal and site clean-up;
- tailgate lift, forklift or other unloading equipment; and
- redelivery, waiting, storage or restricted-access charges.
| Service | What to expect | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Standard delivery | Furniture is delivered in its transport packaging to the stated delivery point. | Exact drop-off point, unloading needs and who moves the furniture indoors. |
| Delivery with installation | May include indoor handling, assembly, positioning and packaging removal. | Availability, price, service provider, access limits and the written list of inclusions. |
Also check whether the product arrives fully assembled, partly assembled or flat-packed. Fully assembled furniture saves setup time but creates a larger delivery footprint. Flat-packed furniture is easier to transport, although large tops, stone surfaces, reception modules and sit-stand frames can still require several people or professional installation.
2. Measure the Complete Delivery Route
Start at the street and follow the same route the furniture will take. Measure the narrowest door opening, lift entrance and internal corridor. Record the lift’s usable width, depth and height—not only the door width. Check stair landings, corners, ceiling height, loading docks, parking and the distance from the vehicle to the final room.
Compare those measurements with the largest packaged component, not only the assembled product dimensions. Packaging, pallets and protective corners add size. Long desktop sections may fit through a doorway but fail to turn on a small landing.
Tell the supplier in advance about stairs, upper floors, narrow entrances, CBD loading limits, shopping-centre rules, construction-site inductions or restricted vehicle access. Reserve the loading dock and freight lift if the building requires bookings, and nominate an on-site contact who can make decisions on delivery day.
3. Prepare the Office for Installation
The room should be ready before furniture arrives. Complete dusty building work where practical, clear the assembly zone and remove trip hazards. Protect finished floors, lift walls and vulnerable corners along the carrying route.
Give the installers a current floor plan showing workstation numbers, desk directions, reception modules, storage locations and meeting-table positions. Mark rooms or desk bays so boxed components can be staged close to their final locations without blocking exits or walkways.
Power and data also need attention before installation. Confirm the position of wall outlets and floor boxes. A floor box beneath a conference table must avoid the table base and remain accessible to the cable tray. For sit-stand desks, allow enough cable length for the full height range and keep cables away from pinch points.
4. Inspect the Furniture on Delivery
Keep the order confirmation or packing list available. Count the cartons and compare product codes, quantities, colours, sizes and left- or right-hand configurations. Check packaging for crushed corners, punctures, water marks or movement inside the carton.
If something appears damaged, incorrect or incomplete, take clear photographs of the item and its packaging. Record the carton label and order number, and keep the packaging while the issue is being assessed. Prompt, complete information makes it easier to match parts and investigate transit damage.
5. Assemble, Position and Test
Follow the product instructions and use the specified fittings. For desks and modular counters, identify left, right, front and rear components before tightening anything. Loosely assemble the frame first, square and align it, then complete the final tightening. Use adjustable feet to compensate for minor floor variation rather than forcing the frame into alignment.
Electrical connections or fixed building work should be completed by appropriately qualified people where required. Keep adapters ventilated and label power, data and AV cables before closing access panels.
Before handover, test each item in normal use:
- confirm that desks, tables and storage are stable and level;
- open every drawer, door and lock;
- move adjustable desks through their full range while watching the cables;
- check table joins, screens, monitor arms and cable trays;
- confirm that chairs move safely and do not block walkways; and
- photograph the completed layout and final cable routing for future reference.
How Zimasya Delivery Works in Australia
For selected premium custom products, Zimasya currently provides an estimated total timeframe of approximately 25–40 business days, or 5–8 weeks, from order confirmation. The estimate can vary with production, sea freight, customs processing, carrier availability and the final destination.
Zimasya’s standard service is generally kerbside delivery or delivery to the nearest safe and accessible ground-floor entrance. It does not automatically include indoor placement, stairs, lift access, unpacking, assembly, packaging removal or specialised unloading. Shipping charges are shown at checkout after a valid Australian delivery address is entered.
Optional White-Glove Premium Service may be available for selected orders and locations, subject to advance confirmation. It may be provided by an independent third party, with scope and fees agreed separately. Review the current Order and Delivery Information and Shipping Policy before ordering, as service details and timeframes can change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does standard office furniture delivery include assembly?
Not necessarily. Zimasya’s standard Australian delivery does not include assembly unless a different service has been agreed in advance. Always check the written service scope before ordering.
What information should I provide before delivery?
Provide the physical street address, floor level, site contact, loading and parking instructions, lift or stair details, narrow-access measurements, building time restrictions and any specialised unloading needs.
What should I do if furniture arrives damaged or incomplete?
Contact Zimasya promptly with the order number and clear photographs or videos of the item and packaging. Keep the packaging while the issue is assessed. This practical reporting step does not limit any rights available under the Australian Consumer Law.
